Silk Road Fortress

Over on the excellent website atlasobscura.com, there is an entry highlighting a Silk Road fortress at Tash Rabat in modern day Kyrkystan.  This type of old world way station was often the only chance merchants had to defend themselves against marauding bandits and tribespeople of the regions through which their caravans had to traverse.  Read more and see some great photos here!
